Squirrels (Reception)

Ciao! We had a fantastic time in Rome on Tuesday! The weather wasn't as hot as it usually is but we still managed to enjoy the beach, sea, 'gelato' and even managed a quick meal in a pizzeria! Thanks for all the lovely parents who helped from filling up the pools, to cooking and playing with the children - it would be impossible to hold such events without you! Thank you smiley

This week we had the pleasure of being able to release our butterflies out to be free in the trees and shrubs around our school. We have loved watching them crawl around as caterpillars. Next they built cocoons and we had to wait patiently. Over the weekend, the butterflies broke out and were flying around the special netting. During the week, we released them and watched them fly away to go and drink nectar and then lay their own eggs.

Squirrels had a fantastic visit to Longdown Activity Farm on Tuesday 7th June. The activities we enjoyed ranged from hay slides, bumpy tractor ride, to feeding baby animals with milk and holding baby chicks very carefully! We enjoyed our picnic and looking at other animals, we also washed our hands many many times!

Welcome to Squirrels!

13th May 2016

Squirrels have been enjoying their animal topic and the animal rescue role play!  We are working hard on our writing and becoming so independent!  We have painted an animal display and are reading lots of facts and stories about jungle animals.

14th April 2016

We are very excited about the sunshine and making the most of our outdoor areas!  We have a lovely jungle role play and have been busy painting jungle animals as well as writing jungle trek lists and finding out facts about the animals that live there!

15th March 2016

We are still excited about our beans growing but we are also enjoying the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears.  We made and tasted porridge last week and love pretending to make it with pans and oats in the classroom too!

We have begun to think about the story of Jesus at Easter and are focusing on the happy ending with its message of new life.

8th March 2016

Squirrels are really pleased that their 'magic' beans are beginning to grow!

We are also very pleased that we earned our marble threat!  We had a fantastic time in our pyjamas hearing stories and sipping hot chocolate!

23rd February 2016

Squirrels are still enjoying traditional tales and Jack and the Beanstalk!  We loved making and tasting our pancakes at the end of last term and are honing our physical skills with beanbags this week.  We enjoyed Spirituality day on Monday with all of the teachers and lots of thinking about 'Jesus calming the storm'.

Tuesday 9th February 2016

Today was the Annual Squirrels Pancake race!  What an exciting event!  After some of the teaching staff demonstrated their skills, Squirrels took turns to flip the pancake twice and walk quickly to the end of the hall.  The whole school watched in delight and all the children were congratulated on taking part.  The final round was the grand finale and the winner was announced.  The winner's name will be engraved on a special trophy.

The parents enjoyed racing too! Well done to everyone!

Thursday 21st January 2016

We are still busy painting pigs and building houses but Squirrels have been planning learning activities linked to our new story 'The Elves and the Shoemaker'.  We need shoe boxes to make a shoe shop! Please send any in!

Friday 15th January 2016

Squirrels have been thinking about our school mission statement and learnt actions to our school song!  The rest of the school were very impressed when we showed them!  See the document below for the words.

We have also been very excited about building our real wall just like the third little pig!

Trinity School Values Song for Squirrels Home Learning

Thursday 7th January 2016

Squirrels have been busy planning their learning activities around traditional tales.  Mrs Viana is going to try to get some bricks for them to build a 'real wall' like the three little pigs!

If anyone has anything to donate/lend to enhance our indoor and outdoor role play, please let us know.

Thursday 10th December

Squirrels have been getting so excited about Christmas!  We are learning about the nativity and wrapping up presents for Father Christmas as well as learning festive songs!

3rd December 2015

We have been very excited about rescuing 'Old Bear' who is stuck in the attic!  The children have all sorts of plans and made great models to get him down from the attic - some of which will be coming home soon!

Christmas is upon us too and we are learning about the birth of Jesus so we have a new stable role play area as well as a workshop for Father Christmas, where we are very busy wrapping and labelling presents!

Thursday 26th November 2015

This week Squirrels visited Orchard Pre-School as we were thinking about how we have changed and how grown up we are now!

Thursday 19th November 2015

The children have been enjoying 'Whatever the Weather’ week. We have not let the wild weather dampen our spirits. We have made mud pies, been on a ‘Bear Hunt’ and used all our senses in our outdoor environment.  Well done, Squirrels!

Thursday 12th November 2015

Squirrels have been very busy as usual!  We are getting better at changing for P.E. and putting our coats on - please keep practising!

We are working hard at blending our sounds and planning our new Bear Cave!

We are looking forward to outdoor fun next week.

We hope you enjoy the photos below, an afternoon in Squirrels.  What fun!

September 2015

We have enjoyed welcoming the new 'Squirrels' to Trinity. They are doing very well learning all the new routines, making new friends and starting on their learning journeys.

Could you please help them to practise putting on and taking off their coats as helping 30 children to do this can be

very time consuming and we have so many other exciting things to do!

We look forward to seeing you at our class meeting on Wednesday 7th October at 2.30pm where we can pass on lots of useful information and clear up any  queries you may have.
